Creating a Digital Border For Your Art Journal

I love using borders in my art journals, but cutting and pasting different textures together by hand can be a bit time consuming and since I don't have a lot of time to work in my journal I wind up not doing something more complicated like I'd like to.  But creating the borders in Photoshop solves the time & complexity problem. Once you know how to do it, its fast and you can save it to re-use later.

Here is one that I made using a digital collage sheet carried by Retro Cafe Art:
Before we begin, a word about using digital collage sheets--be sure to check the user agreement before you use it and remember; although you may alter it in Photoshop, its not yours to re-distribute or sell.  That could get you into a lot of trouble!

What you'll need for this tutorial is Photoshop and images.  I'm using scanned pages from my 30-30-30 project.  I've divided this video into two steps.  The first step is to create a custom shape that will be your border's basic shape. I am sorry that blogger has posted this so small--for some reason it wouldn't let me adjust the viewing size, but if you click on it a "watch on youtube" option should come up and then you can watch it in full screen.
Once you've done this, you can move onto step 2 and create your collaged border:
It seems really complicated when you're watching the tutorial but in reality, its not.  The first sample that I showed at the top took me 10 minutes to do start to finish and that was with putting in some gradient fill and some brush effects on top of everything else.

The great thing is now I have this border for use whenever I want--all I have to do is click print!

Hope everyone is having a good Monday.
